MA Fine Art Interim Show – I Never Agreed to Lend My Voice – 25-28 February 2025

Exhibition poster for an MA Fine Art Interim Show titled I Never Agreed to Lend My Voice

‘I Never Agreed to Lend My Voice’ exhibits experimentation, collaboration, and discovery from emerging artists challenging notions of voice, identity, environment and politics.

In a world where artists’ ownership of their own work is increasingly under threat, this exhibition embodies our desire to not only own our own work, but our own narratives, identities, and practices.

The title, drawn from a spontaneous conversation in the studio, captures a growing sentiment among us of defiance; a rejection of silencing and censorship.

As a group of MA Fine Art students, we’ve spent time together navigating our identities as artists, pushing boundaries, and rethinking what it means to be seen and heard. ‘I Never Agreed to Lend My Voice’ boldly explores the power and authenticity of our voices through multidisciplinary, experimental, and unapologetically personal works which reframe traditional media while carving out new paths in contemporary art.

More than just an exhibition, this is an ongoing conversation, a declaration that each artist in their own way has something to say — and no one else will speak for them.

I Never Agreed to Lend My Voice: Act 2 – 12-20 May 2025

The eleven MA Fine Artists studying at the University of Leeds follow up the success of ‘I Never Agreed to Lend My Voice’ by re-curating its second iteration in collaboration with Hyde Park Art Club.

Join the artists at this new exhibition at Hyde Park Book Club as they continue to experiment, push boundaries, and boldly examine power and authenticity through painting, drawing, sculpture, audio-visual pieces, and text-based work.

In a world where artists’ ownership of their own work is increasingly under threat, ‘I Never Agreed to Lend My Voice: Act 2’ embodies a desire for artists to fully own their work, narratives, identities, and practices. The title, drawn from a spontaneous conversation in the studio, captures a growing sentiment of resistance; a rejection of censorship.

Be a part of their ongoing conversation exploring humour, adoration, voice identity, environment, and politics where not only are their voices heard, but you are encouraged to speak.

Join us for a private view from 7pm to late on Tuesday 13 May. Please RSVP here if you would like to attend the private view.

Find out more about the exhibition at a ‘behind the scenes’ event on Monday 19 May from 5.30pm. The artists will be in conversation with George Storm Fletcher – Leeds-based artist, University of Leeds MA Fine Art graduate and self-proclaimed menace. The evening will also feature a debut performance piece by exhibiting artist Bethany Wilson.
