Kirstin Harvie

Kirstin Harvie is a painter whose work confronts the relationship between violence, identity, and representation. Originally from London and now based in Leeds, she studied Politics, Philosophy and Economics before pursuing an MA in Fine Art. Her background in political theory and ethics informs a research-led practice that interrogates how complex moral issues are mediated and consumed.

Her current work focuses on individuals serving whole life orders in the UK. Often vilified in the press as irredeemable monsters, these figures are presented through fragmented, layered portraits. By reworking the same media-sourced images used to condemn them, Kirstin questions how identity is constructed, distorted, and ultimately lost in public discourse.

Kirstin’s paintings explore the tension between humanity and monstrosity, good and evil. Her work invites viewers to reflect on how punishment, exclusion, and dehumanisation shape who we allow to belong, and who we cast out, asking whether even the most vilified individuals can be seen beyond their crimes.
